President Trump of the United States of America has made it known that he has plans to end the automatic citizenship given to babies born on US soil. He plans to sign an executive order to end the process, but he did not disclose when all these will take effect. Though analysts believe that this can set up a strong another constitutional standoff. It can be recalled that Trump has a very strong stand on immigration policies and is determined to make changes to that.
However, it can be recalled that the 14th constitution amendment of 1868 says that All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.
But Trump is kicking against this saying that the United States is the only country in the world where a person comes in, has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States for 85 years with all of those benefits.
He said that it is ridiculous and it has to end. He stated further saying; It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don’t. You can definitely do it with an act of Congress. But now they’re saying I can do it just with an executive order. Trump didn’t provide any details of his plan but said that it is in the process and it’ll happen.
This has already initiated argument whether it’s in the president’s power to change this birthright citizenship or not.
